comments: I am member of the Brisbane Local Energy Trade System (BrisLets) since late 2008 and I am very interested in researching the economics of this system. Early in this semester I submited an essay on environmental markets where I concluded that current economic apporach to colve environmental markets is inefficient in providing such solutions, because it seems to me that the current economy needs the environmental detriment for the markets to survive. At the same time, I was thinking about an issue that some non-profits organizations involved with the field of afforestation and reforestation projects are facing here in Australia: Some of this organizations require voluntary action of companies to offset their emissions through land restoration, the issue is that under the new emissions trading legislation, some of the credits created by offseting emissions, will not be acknoledge, thus intensive emissions companies are not encouraged to participate in the voluntary ma
rket because there is no monetary reward and the non-profit organizations are struggling to get projects to restore areas of land. So I thought that maybe memberships of complementary currency systems, could be more motivated to participate in these activities, maybe not directly related to emissions reduction but with land management and restoration, perhaps through permaculture...I dream with permaculture lands offseting emissions with on of this non-profit organizations. The idea is quite complicated and I would like your help to set a research project, I am actually working on it at the moment for one of my courses at uni.
I look forwar to hearing back from you sooner rather than later.
Regards,
Tatiana
